Known as the "swiftest of all beasts", the Leucrocotta is described as being the size of an ass(donkey), with the haunches of a stag, the neck, tail, and torso of a lion, the head of a badger, and cloven hooves. It is also said to have a mouth that opens all the way to the ears, with ridges of continuous bone instead of teeth. It is thought to be the offspring of a hyena with a lioness.
Artist notes: Pencil on paper. Both the Crocotta and Leucrocotta could easily be florid and antiquated descriptions for hyenas themselves (as referenced by the spotted hyena's own scientific name, c. crocotta), but I took a more literal approach with this creature. The leg spots are similar to those found on African lions.
